A few days ago, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Vaya, a monster rock band from Canada, check it out below:

VAYA2

  1. What inspired the name of the band and what are your influences?

VAYA: Hello Median Man. Happy to answer to your questions. Well, as you can discover on our official website, VAYA is the Legend of the white wolf from the native indian of America. A deep breath running into your spine bones and make you scream and dance around the fire.

Influences? Really eclectic between rock, classical music, blues, tribal and so….

  1. How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

VAYA: So songwriting approach me. I mean, I have most of the the time my leather book with me if is it not the case, thanks technology, I have my cellphone to record vocal notes:D. You never decide when muses come to you; it can be on “walking on the street”, in the middle of a dinner or middle of the night!

So it is always around Power of Nature, Human being and Universe Laws.

  1. Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

VAYA: I am still day by day asking it to myself;)

  1. How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

VAYA: Well the song talks by itself, especially when you play it as live on your rehearsal place. Then the set structure is built through the band’s exchanges. It is taking a lot of time. You need to review the power and dynamic of each song. By the way that is a step really interesting to do; it is a part of the spirit of the project.

  1. What are your plans for the future?

VAYA: Actually in Toronto on process of the second album. We are working on a South of America tour and a new Canadian tour for 2020.
