HOMEOPATHY

What inspired the name of the band and what are your influences?

As far as the inspiration of the bands name goes I can tell ya that one, I remember walking in our courtyard and Julia and I were chatting about different ways that people heal themselves and one of the ways was by homeopathy and that can include putting drops under the tongue….bang!!!. It feels like it wrote itself, plus I love the double meaning as you can also be taken to other worlds by putting some things under the tongue, so I have heard.

We would say the influences are ranging from The Beatles to Ben Harper, Puscifer, Elliot Smith, Audioslave, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Slade, Cat Stevens….and the list could go on.

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

The approach to songwriting in UTT has always been spontaneous. There is no sitting down saying’ right, we need a song’ and then begin. If it comes then great and if it is not there, it  is no problem. The songs can come from s cool riff, a drum beat or a cool sound on the guitar. Sometime a chord sequence will feel good so that can be an inspiration. Going for a walk in the forest in the north of Germany has also been the seed for a few songs, so it is varied.

ESCAPE

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

In the beginning UTT was an escape for us, so I guess that could be seen as a theme. To escape from what is going on in life or in the world.. Music also can be a type of therapy I would say. So I suppose it is like going to a cheap therapist as well as being  a great catharsis in the process. If your subconscious could sing then I would say you are listening to Under The Tongue.

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

Good grooves, great  singalong melodies that will stay with you after the gig, a good vibe and something that gets you moving without thinking about it too much are usually the way that the songs are chosen for a live set.

WHAT WORKS

6 WEEKS

What plans do you have for the future?

We plan on releasing a single every 6 weeks for the next year starting with our first song ‘Waterfall’ on the 5th of June. Also making super cool videos for the songs is something that we enjoy, it is a load of work but a completely different craft to be explored. We have had to cancel many gigs because of the COVID-19 but are in the process of booking a European tour as well as a South American your, so there is plenty to do at the moment.
