Spirit Adrift enjoyed a brilliant 2019, with the release of their latest album Divided by Darkness, having recently signed with Century Media Records and with a new album on the way, they’re revisiting some of their earlier releases such as Curse of Conception, which this review is about.

“Earthbound,” starts off slowly. The acoustic guitar weaving its way through the very fabric of the listener’s conscious and setting the tone for what is to come. As the song gets heavier, one gets the feeling that Spirit Adrift are hitting you with an opus as the opening track. The way the song twists and turns through the platform simply reinforces this.

“Curse of Conception,” weaves itself through a pathway and imbues itself with melody and chaos. There’s a real sense of something bombastic about to come. When the vocals kick in, you get the sense that Spirit Adrift are leading the listener down the rabbit hole into mind bending realities.

“To Fly On Broken Wings,” starts off calmly, slowly bringing the listener into a new platform before unleashing complete carnage and showing off exactly what it’s about.

“Starless Age,” is psychedelic. A song that truly shines through and enables the listener to enjoy the talents on display. A real groover.

“Graveside Invocation,” pounds away, drawing on some very primal energy. Spirit Adrift let loose and the results are spectacular, there’s a real sense of something phenomenal happening within the confines of the song.

“Spectral Savior,” is a thundering groan into the void. A song that reflects the heaviness that Spirit Adrift are capable of whilst also allowing a slightly melodical bent to creep in.

“Wakien,” is haunting and twisting. A song that melds together the east and the west.

“Onward, Inward,” taunts the listener from the beginning. Showing off the talents of the band and ensuring that the melodies are structured in such a way as to get the listener completely hooked.

The reissue is out on 24th April via Century Media Records.
