Neuronspoiler are the cream of the crop of British Metal Bands, formed nearly a decade a go, they have a new album entitled ‘Second Sight’ being released on 21st October, 2017. I sat down with vocalist Jerome to talk about the band and the record:
- What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?
“Well, the name Judas Priest was already taken! Haha. But on a more serious note, our guitar player David wanted a name that represented what we stand for, which is to make our music make people think a bit deeper about things. For example, there’s a song on our new record called Slay the Beast, which a few people have said sounds similar to Maiden. And it’s a bit of satire and a homage, not mimicking, but getting people to think a bit deeper, and getting them to listen to the song. So, we chose the name Neuronspoiler as a result. As for influences, well Priest, Maiden, Tony Martin era Black Sabbath. Our influences haven’t really changed that much over time.”
- How do you approach recording an album and writing songs?
“Well there were four years between our first album and Second Sight, four years where we weren’t producing music. Which was quite frustrating. We did lose a few members and did have to reboot the band slightly, but we never stopped writing. Myself and David are the main song writers for the band. I’ll come up with the melodies and send them over with drum parts and a rough idea of guitar parts to David, who will then come up with the riffs and guitar parts properly. It’s all about trust and communication for a good writing process.”
- Is there a song from the new record that holds a special place for you?
“From the new album? I’d say all of the songs. We’re really excited to be releasing the new record on 21st October, and of course, we’re excited about the diversity of the songs, and the fact we’ve avoided painting ourselves into a corner.”
- As a upcoming band, how do you view the music industry?
“Really, we’ve managed to carry on, and be it through doing it live, acoustically, in your own bedroom, if you love music you’ve just got to get yourself out there. We’ve had a lot of small successes which have encouraged us to keep going. And now we’re signed to a great label in Dissonance Production. Largely we’ve done it ourselves, and had some help along the way.”
- Future plans?
“The new record comes out next week, and from there we’re going to try and go out and tour. Germany, Japan, two places where we’re getting traction. In fact we sold out our debut record in physical copies twice over in Japan, which is insane. And from there, just advance career wise and continue making the music we love.”
