What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

Well, that’s actually funny.. once Vincenzo went on a trip to Singapore and there he read this sign in his hotel room stating that windows had to stay closed at all times due to monkey intrusion. When he told us we all had the same vision of musical monkeys intruding  the minds of listeners and so here you go! As for the second part of the question we have to say that the four of us have different music backgrounds and tastes so there are many, many influences in our music.

How and why songwriting?

Since it’s the four of us that write there isn’t a specific pattern. Let’s say that usually there are some events, personal situations that trigger imagination so it is pretty random and there’s not any specific theme that we have in mind before we start.

Basically it’s the urge to communicate feelings, impressions.. that’s why you’ll hear many different styles, at times also in the same song. We try to shape the songs so that in the end the message is pretty clear and hopefully the listeners will be captured by it. Since the arrangements are written during rehearsal sessions it often happens that a song will become very different from the original version and usually it’s a good thing because it gathers in richness and depth. At the same time we pay a lot of attention to the overall sound so that it’s recognizable throughout these very different songs.

live?

We perform all of the songs live.. there’s no great effort to transpose them from the recordings because they originally are written to be played live. Certainly there are parts that in the studio versions sound a bit different but the general architecture is the same. You see, for us the live performance is the most important and fulfilling part of the trade so everything is made with that in mind.

What plans do you have for the future?

After the first four singles we have released (The Brighter Side, Fire Dancer, LIfe, Police of the Soul) we’re about to come out with yet another single, Hard Times. Later in autumn we should release the full album but that depends in part by the situation on the live front.
