What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?
The name Lost Dogs Of Ultimo comes from an inner city suburb of Sydney called Ultimo that was a location where a lot of Musicians Artists and Activist lived and played together as it use to be affordable so Lost Dogs Of Ultimo started with the idea of collaborating with some of those people to reconnect after we all moved away
My influences are varied growing up with Punk in the UK exploring Reggae and the more experimental side of music with Alan Vega and Suicide and now some of the Beats and Loops I am finding from navigating the technology of the studio
How do you approach songwriting?
My initial approach comes from my current influences from Street Art Books that I am reading or Topics that have grabbed Me.
Some of the themes i have touched on last year with the releases have been Death, Mental Health and Surf and Skate culture that all went with the Street Art Project I did in 2022
I generally start the writing process in the studio with listening to drums sounds and merging some of them in the studio finding the right tempo Im a big fan of Bass and i love dropping multiple bass tracks down on top of each other If I am collaborating with someone else their input starts to help the direction of where a track goes to lyrically

Why?
I can only write about things that interest Me or I am influenced by.
My style of composing tracks usually have a big Bass and guitar sound and somewhere lurking there is some reggae be it running through the whole song or just a chord strike. I love the texture of merging music styles and beats
That comes from being exposed to some great music also I loved The Clash Sandanista album also Mickey Dread, Horace Andy and the MC5 to name a few
How do you decide what to play live?
Im currently trying to develop a live show that incorporates Live Street Art and Music with interaction from Artists Musicians and audience. So when I can find the right combination of Street Artists and Musicians the songs should just pop out based on the collective energy we create in rehearsal.
I also have to be mindful of the right venue setting so hopefully the master plan comes together soon.
I see it as a sound track to interactive Live Art

What plans do you have for the future?
I hope to continue with the current Project development as Its already been a long journey and this is just another chapter in My evolution as an artist / musician As I make new friends to collaborate with here in Melbourne it is such a vibrant community of Artists Musicians and Activists.
