I had the pleasure of sitting down and interviewing Madeleine and Richard from Eleine today, we talked about the band’s history, and the new album:

  1. What was the thinking behind the name of the band, and what are your influences?

Madeleine: “I started the band in 2011, and knew that the name of the band needed to be something that was easy to remember and pronounce that stood out. So I shortened my own name and chose Eleine. As for influences, for me it would be Queen, but also bands such as Dimmu Borgir. I love that they create a entire story with their songs and take you there.”

Richard: “I listen to a lot of 50s and 60s music, though it might not show in the music. Bands like The Turtles, but also Ronnie James Dio and Symphony X and Metallica.”

  1. What are your influences when you write?

Richard: “Whatever comes naturally. Sometimes it could come immediately, or it could take a few days, there’s not set process behind it.”

  1. What was the process behind recording the new album? And what songs are you looking forward to playing live?

Richard: “Same as the first album, there were a lot of cups of coffee drunk, and we sat down and thought about what themes we wanted to reflect in our work. We wanted to shine a light on the world, on the events happening. With media being so present now it’s very easy for people to sort of read the news and then move on with their lives. We wanted to show that you still have to have empathy and decency.”

Madeleine: “I’m looking forward to playing all the songs on the record, but especially From The Grave.”

Richard: “All of them, none of the songs are filler, we wrote the songs and realised we’d got a solid album.”

  1. What plans have you got for the future?

Richard: “We’re building up to a tour, we’ve got a few things in motion, though nothing is set just yet.”

Madeleine: “We do hope to come the UK soon though! As a lot of our fans there keep asking us to.”
