What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

My artist name “DiipSilence” comes from the meaning of my original name, it means deep profound and silent. Some of my influences are Jay-Jay Johanson, Massive Attack, Morcheeba, CocoRosie, etc.

How do you approach songwriting and why?

Most of my music comes from the sound, I’ll go out to the city or nature to do field recordings, which I then use as the raw material for my music. I design the sounds in my studio via different tools like sampler, modular synth and wavetable synth and so on. The interesting part is to change the sound into something new and unique, the goal is to create unrecognizable instruments, to keep the originality and freshness of my music. By combining the natural sounds of the world with the technological capabilities of softwares, I hope to create music that is both innovative and deeply rooted in the world around us.

As a child, I was always intrigued by puzzles and riddles. I believe this love for riddles has greatly influenced my style of music. The original sound is intentionally designed to unrecognizable instruments, and the listener is left to decipher its source. For instance, my voice can be transformed into a fully glitched neurobass; raindrops, can be manipulate percussive rhythms or stretch them into haunting drones. By creating these sound design “riddles”, it allows me to explore new avenues of sound and creativity while simultaneously challenging the listener’s ear and perception. I hope the listeners will like the procedure of deciphering the sound palette.

How do you decide what to play live?

I’m writing songs in Ableton Live and I’ll cut my arrangement into session view, trigger the clip combinations as I want to create an exciting moment. I’d love to put live effects on it and change the sound live. It’s almost like a DJing approach, but I’ll still have my voice or other instruments performed live, and I’ll do “sound design” type effects live so it’s still unrecognizable of the origin.

What plans do you have for the future?

My latest release “White(Speed)” hided a wish to my best friend, I turned a sentence into something unknown. So after this I decided to write more music like this, I’m trying to incorporate more “riddles” and hidden messages into each piece of work. The power of hidden messages and subtle hints would be my next theme. Rather than expressing my thoughts and feelings directly in the lyrics, I prefer to write music that are not immediately obvious in their meaning. I want my audience to have their own interpretation of my work, to find their own personal connections to my music.

Thank you for having me here!
