They are an institution, a band that formed a key part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal Movement during the Seventies, after reforming in 2012, Desolation Angels have gone from strength to strength, bringing their brand of fast-paced, heart-stopping metal into the 21st century. Their new album King demonstrates all that is good and healthy about metal.

Songs such as Doomsday and Another Turn of the Screw are fast, face-meltingly good, and are sure to go over well when played live. The riffs are some of the best that has been produced within the metal community in years. This is followed by Devil Sent, a song that has a build up and contemplative melody good enough to rival the best. Rotten Core, has a great riff, and a soaring vocal line that will get the crowd moving.

From there Your Blackened Heart provides a melodious but also a dark and twisted turn into metal. A trend continued by Find Your Life, which with a slower tempo brings out more reflexivity from the band and for the audience. Hellfire is as fast and as rapid as the name would suggest, bringing some fresh new riffage to the table. Sky of Pain is in a word epic. Vocal lines that haunt the listener, riffs and melodies that will get the crowd going in unison. My Demon Inside is reflective, a fitting end to a great album.

Be sure to get this album when it is released on 23rd February, you won’t regret it.
