Death The Levellercontinue that age old tradition of fusing doom with liveable experiences. But this time they pull from their homeland of Ireland and the mythos therein to produce something truly remarkable on their debut album.

“The Hunt Eternal,” is downright terrifying in some aspects. The guitars which bend and flex their way throughout the song really paint a picture, before anything else comes in. As the vocals come in and the guitars change their measurements, the listener is truly given a broad perspective on the content of the song. This is a strong opener and one that is sure to get people focused as the album progresses.

“The Golden Bough,” slowly creeps into being. The clean guitar melody that arches its way through, truly builds itself into the listener’s mind and ensures that they are hooked from the get go. As the distortion kicks in, the guitars take charge and though the vocals soar in and out, the listener’s mind is immediately drawn to the sharpness of the guitars.

“So They May Face The Rising Sun,” is innovative. The clean guitars harken back to the sixties and a western feel. The distorted guitars then allow the vocals to truly take over. Bringing with them a sense of chaos and destruction. This is true doom metal at its finest, brimming with despair and thoughtfulness.

“The Crossing,” is straight epicness. A song that mixes together various elements to bring together something quite special, and a fitting finale for what has been an astounding debut album.

II is out on 13th March via Cruz Del Sur Music, do yourself a favour and get this album when it is released.
