What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

The inspiration for the name ‘Death in Paradise’ arose from a number of different aspects…from the world we face today to where I originate from, Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean… people see it for the surface the majority of the time, the sun, beautiful beaches, palm trees…but there is a dark undertone of corruption and crime there….I’ve lived and seen the ghettos, the guns, the drugs and to be honest I’m not sure if I would still be alive today if it wasn’t for my dream and music.

Our influences range from Soundgarden, Guns n Roses, Highly Suspect and The Cult….to A Perfect Circle to old delta and Mississippi blues… influences are mostly eclectic I would say… quite diverse.

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

I try to not force my songs…as many artists would admit…some songs just write themselves… basically, the songs usually start off with guitar pieces that seem to stick to the emotion I feel…I then take it from there I suppose…I play mostly raw, but the exploration comes with experimenting with different ways and approaches with style of what would be best for the sound and point of the song….some of them however, in the past and I guess still are just straight up rock n roll and punk

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

It’s just the way it naturally comes out….it’s probably also music I would enjoy listening to myself I guess

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

I go on the mood as a collective. When the band is properly rehearsed, it most likely would be a set of, let’s just say, twenty songs….all meaningful in their own right and attack. When I get to a show or venue…I try to take some time to myself to absorb the energy I feel from the venue, the feeling I am experiencing at that moment and the attendees mood..I use this vibe and energy to guide me into writing the list of songs for the night.

What plans do you have for the future?

With the new release of ‘Closer’ as our first single….i personally can’t wait to play it live and on tour…Releasing the album ‘Sacrificing the Goat’ , doing a music video perhaps….but mostly releasing the songs and playing shows and festivals…that would be amazing.

Thank you ☠️
