What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

My grandmother Zona, is the inspiration for my artist name. She gifted me my first guitar at 9 years old and when she passed I wanted the music to always be able to carry a piece of her. My main influences with my music are Jon Bellion, Kendrick Lamar, Nina Simone, and Serj Tankian. They influence me a lot in my music because I admire the way they hear and feel the music. When you feel what is being said in a song, it just takes the song to another level.

How do you approach songwriting?

I approach songwriting from an emotion usually. I have issues understanding emotions fully at times, so I use my writing as practice. An example would be my song “Hoops” I wrote that song with the emotion of frustration, the emotion of just feeling not enough. Ive felt that way so many times life, but I have always had trouble explaining it. Explaining how I feel without walls, without putting up this front of being okay or being more mad than hurt. Sometimes the writing comes from personal experience, sometimes I write them from a person on the outside looking in.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

I write the music that I do because its real and raw. The music that makes me feel, is the type of music I wanted to always create. Talking about the struggles we face with ourselves. In relationships, alone, friendships. The way we think of ourselves is the thing we hide the most, but how can I connect with others on that level if im not in tune with it myself? It was always a question I wanted to be able to answer. That’s why I write the music I do.

How do you decide what to perform live?

I decide what songs to perform live by fan favorite, my personal favorites, and a theme of sorts if that is what I am going for on tour. I like songs that sound the same live, however I love switching up a song to give the viewer a different shift change. A tempo change and a slowing or speeding up of the lyrics can make a happy song really sad. I like pushing that boundary so with my personal favorites I change the song.

What plans do you have for the future?

My plans for the future is to change what pop music looks like and love every second doing it. We spend so much of our lives living to please others, and I just want to be free in every way. Even though it seems generalized what I am saying, the more you are exposed to my music, the more all of this makes sense. I do have. Release called “Love Me” dropping on April 8th 2022! I cant wait for everyone to hear it! It is a favorite of mine currently.
