What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?

We spent a lot of time going through words and combinations of words to find something that fit. I found it when I was watching Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. He’s sinking in quicksand and is explaining what a void collapse is. Our influences are mostly death metal in general. I’ve always listened to metal for as long as I can remember, and have always thought about making it. Since I was in third grade I was always trying to find the most extreme thing to listen to. It’s always captured my imagination.

How do you approach song writing? Are there themes you are keen to explore when you start off?

Yes there are. It starts with an idea. Then I get the artwork I want, or what’s going to inspire. I start building the album around that and get it done. I’m doing a four album concept right now and I have the artwork ready to go. I’m doing an album for each of the four tarot queens. Our latest album Gwenda is the Queen of Wands, and she kicks it off. I’m starting the Queen of Swords right now. Shane sent me the drums last week. I approach every album differently, I have all new guitar tones and an idea how I want them to sound, so I’m at the point right now where I’m just going to get going. For these tarot albums, I’m finishing and releasing right as I get them done. I’m trying to get them done in a year or two. I don’t want to be goofing around with a four album concept. Lol, I’m not going to rush them, but I’m not going to waste time either.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

Metal has always been a place to explore fantasy or anything you can dream up. When I was a kid. I would look at the covers, and then listen, and both working together would take me to another world. That’s what I’m striving for now, or what I do basically. Just try to make a feeling, and everything work together to make a complete experience.

How do you decide what songs to perform live, and how do you transpose them into a live setting?

Well we don’t perform live unfortunately. Shane lives in Texas, and I live in Michigan. Right now this is a project band. We’re both working full time in positions where it wouldn’t be possible to miss that much work to tour. I have a family also, so that’s another thing. It’s something I wish I could do, but unfortunately not in the cards.

What plans do you have for the future?

Finishing these next three albums. We have a split with Before the Storm We Flourished coming up soon. Trying to get some people to listen to us, and that’s about it.
