What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

We wanted the band name Virtue In Vain to represent something we relate to. In essence the idea of anti-idolism. The name portrays the idea that you shouldn’t have to look up or follow the same path as someone or something just because it has been portrayed as successful.

That just because you take the path less travelled by doesn’t make your view any less valid, we are all different and wealth and success has no bearing on character.

Some of our influences are Make Them Suffer, The Devil Wears Prada, Architects, Napoleon, For the Fallen Dreams, Crystal Lake & Currents. Plus many other bands we have played with over the many years.

How do you approach songwriting?

Yes absolutely, we tend to start with a theme in mind. This is generally what the song or album will be about. We then start to write riffs and come up with ideas to form a structure of the song, then we just keep working and perfecting parts until we have the finished product.

We write concept pieces for our EP’s and songs so themes are key to how to write and how the flow of the song or songs work.

Why do you write the songs that you do?

We all love different types of music but we feel that metal really speaks to us. The passion and energy in the music mixed with the emotional and real topics artists write in their songs have spoken to us all at different points in our lives.

So the style of music really speaks to us and we want to put our spin on it and talk about topics we feel passionate about.

How do you decide what songs to perform live?

We go through our discography and choose which songs we feel would suit the line up while still being something we enjoy playing. Often we change the order to make sure the show works well and is a performance rather than a bunch of songs played one after another.

For the live setting we focus alot of our performance to make sure it is entertaining and enjoyable while still being able to play. This just comes down to practising our set over and over again until we know it without thinking.

What plans do you have for the future?

We have a tour coming out later this year which we are really excited about. We also are working on our next release so stay in touch with our socials for more info on that to come.
