An interview with Tony Benn

An interview with Tony Benn

What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?

Well all credit goes to my parents they picked it and it’s served me well.Influence wise I’m into a bit of everything (cliched or what) but If I have to pick Bruce Springsteen, Roxette, Ani Di Franco, The Beatles and Pearl Jam would be the big ones for me.

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

To me it’s a game of two halves, I find it a very organic process to start, I just pick up the guitar and noodle around until I have a part I like, the second part where you have to refine and polish up the tune into something that makes sense is the hard bit. I never consciously have a theme in mind, but looking back the main theme of my music would be hope and the belief that everything will work out

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

Good question, if I had to point fingers or place blame it would be on Pearl Jam and Bruce Springsteen, since I started playing I have loved the energy of Pearl Jam and the emotion of Mr Springsteen.

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

I usually just pick the first song and then see what the crowd is like to pick the rest, if it’s rowdy I get rowdy, if it’s all romantic I keep it smooth.

What plans do you have for the future?

Right now it’s hard to plan anything but I plan to release two more songs this year and hopefully start touring again. The idea of a tour, even a small one, is like thinking about Christmas’s as young fella, super exciting !
