What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

The writing of William Gibson inspired our band name, which was a collaborative effort. We wanted to reference the idea of appealing to a multitude of senses and emotions, hence: The Haptics. We have a variety of influences including Joy Division, New Order, Bauhaus, Nirvana, and Interpol – to name a few!

How and why do you write what you write?

Cam often brings melodies and ideas for songs to practice, where we jam and sculpt the music into a full song. Jin usually freestyles lyrics and vocal melodies until she lands on something she really likes, that the group agrees makes for a compelling song. A lot of our songs touch on universal themes like love, loss, toxicity, anger, and doubt. Jin likes to bring her personal experiences to each track.

We definitely represent a variety of musical backgrounds, some of us more punk rock, some more grunge or alternative. I think we’re all really drawn to the post-punk sound: it’s raw, genuine, and reflects well on the general mood and personality of Vancouver, the city we live in.

live?

We have a general list of songs we’d like to play live and arrange them uniquely for each length of set and general vibe we’d like to communicate at each show. Audience is definitely a determining factor in this process!

What plans do you have for the future?

We’ve got a 3-song EP dropping across streaming services online on November 9th entitled “Zero Gravity”. We’ve teased a couple songs as singles and are really excited to present the third and completing track. We’re also playing shows in Vancouver on a consistent basis: check out our socials (especially Instagram) @the.haptics and on Facebook as “The Haptics” for the latest. Thank you!
