An interview with Shobocon

An interview with Shobocon

What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?

The name “Shobocon” came to me (Poontz – vocal) while speaking in tongues.

Regarding influence bands :

Ditty says “Starset, Asking Alexandria, Highly Suspect, Lacuna Coil.

Poontz says “Mike Patton and Chris Cornell for vocals, Korn, Soundgarden, Rage , Limp, Slip, Godsmack, Alice, Pearl, Nirv basically 90’s metal and grunge.”

Jigz says “Korn, Periphery, Bizkit, Sevendust, Drowning Pool, Harry Potter Soundtrack”

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

Jigz lays the foundation and we build off that by adding layers.  98% of the time it will be us just messing around and he will play a riff.   I will tell him GO with that and we work it until it becomes something solid.  If its good and holds weight it will get finished and recorded.  We are usually just having fun and new riffs flow in during breaks or chill time.   We never specifically try to  “write a song”.  And we have a database of half riffs and ideas to pull from whenever we want to explore stuff.  Or I will specifically ask Jigz to “make something up” on the fly and we freestyle it.  Sometimes that turns into gold.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

We write and play music as a release.  And its also our chill time and hangout.  So its all about having fun and experiencing life.  The songs are usually about  Emotions and experiences, current events, or Jesus.  We believe in 432 frequencies.  Water crystals being aligned by positive intent and focused love.  We write music as a tool to share this message.

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

Any song that is completed and ready we will try and put into a live set.  When we write and jam its setup in a stage environment so we have a “live” feel at all times.  We thrive in Live so there isn’t much transposing.

What plans do you have for the future?

Continue to write.  Hone our skills.  Experiment with new technology and sounds.  Prepare for Revelation times and share the message.  Record as much as possible and establish a live feed of our jam space.
