What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

Well, we were inspired by ourselves (the Fallen), by our failures and by our own attempts to survive and move forward (Revenge).
That was the whole purpose of the foundation of the band.
We all had failed with other musical projects, or in relationships, or even in our day time jobs.
So the name of the band became a banner, to purge our feelings and to try and cope with reality, using art – music and later the videos – filtering those thoughts and emotions, making the music we do.
Sometimes we can have a bad day and make a slow tempo music, more quiet or with more clean parts, and have a very great day and make this fast or heavier song.
So the way we deal with things might not be so linear – a bad day might not become a heavy song.
We are heavily influenced by life itself. It would be easier to point out a certain range of musicians or bands, but that wouldn’t mirror the things we are influenced from when making music.
Let’s say we are spectators, or even sociologists. And what we learn from life, we turn into the music you listen to.

How do you approach songwriting?

There is no particular thematic we like to address, as there are no limits or boundaries to what we, creatively or critically, talk about in our songs or even what instruments are used or in what way. It’s always a matter of doing what we feel the song “asks” for.
The songs usually are presented to the band, after our guitarist Fábio Gil and our vocalist Cláudio Santos work the basic part, the centrepiece of the finished product.
That’s when André Seia – our other guitarist – adds his own flavour, Martin Gaspar – our bassist – adds his colours and Carlos Araújo – our drummer – adds his textures.
It’s presented to the band as a rough diamond, by the main writers, but the rest of the band help in polishing the diamond.
It’s a meaningless rock without the contribution of all.

Why do you write the music that you do?

We like to think that the music we write is a reflection of our experiences. And if it’s heavier, most times, we find the balance with some clean parts, experimenting with other instruments or genres.
We really appreciate heavy music, with all its energy and roughness, that is the core of our music, but it’s not the whole thing.
The heavy music can be the main ingredient, but the frosting of the cake is this wide range of other stuff that makes our music so special to us.

How do you decide what to perform live?

As we are currently promoting our record “Echo Chambers”, released last April, we are focusing mainly on showcasing those songs.
It’s very important for us to play as many songs from this record as possible.
Sometimes, if we have time on our set, we add some songs from the previous EP’s (2018’s “Pareidolia” and 2019’s “UnBroken”).
We’re actually doing that for the remaining shows of the year, as we’re playing 2 songs from each EP, mainly the singles “Shadows Fall” and “Tears”.
We play the songs as much alike as recorded, but as we’re playing some of them for so long now, we like to add a few new things here and there.

What plans do you have for the future?

We’ll be promoting this album for quite some time now, it’s what we have planned.
There are many places to go and many beautiful people to meet!
This means we’re very much open to the idea of playing abroad, which is something we have been wishing for a long time, and it seems 2023 is a strong candidate for this to happen.
There’s new and exciting songs being written in parallel that might become, eventually, the new record, so we’re pretty excited for the future, actually.
We are ready for it all!
