What led to the formation of the band?

The band was formed in 2014 because Walter Behobi (guitars, vocals) needed a more solid means of expression for his songs. After several formations, shows and tours, Walter understood that he needed a producer according to the material. He contacted Tridanna’s JJ Fornes and summoned the talented lead guitarist Ivan Sesarini and they got down to business completing the band’s first album.

How do you approach songwriting?

Songwriting is a skill: the more you practice, the more you improve. Also, you have to have something honest and emotional to say. Walter generally transforms his experiences into songs. It could be a situation, a book he read (he has a very large library and he always brags about it) or something that happened to someone else. The important thing is that it has to resonate emotionally. If something is generic or has no meaning for musicians, it is left out.

After living with the idea of the song for some time, Walter writes an extended version and carries out a stage of demos that can last up to a year. Finally, it shows a complete and corrected version to the band to be recorded and then each one contributes with their arrangements and ideas. For the second album the guitarist Ivan also brought high quality songs. We hope to share the second album very soon. We have already finished the first half and already sounds far better than the first one!

Which song from the record do you think defines the band and the album?

All of them! We put a lot of time in all our songs and we try to make them have their own flavour. For a sample, “Rise your Arms” is a fun and heavy number. It has heroic metal guitar harmonies and solos, big choruses and driving riffs, and possibly sums up the spirit of Percival quite well.

What are your plans for the future?

We are recording the  second album. The first one went wonderfully well, especially in Russia, Germany and the USA. We get a lot of emails and invitations to tour Europe, Greece, etc.  It’s very exciting! Due to the pandemic, we prefer to keep things safe and continue working on the second album. We hope to be able to repeat the creative team from the first one, which gave us very good results. The second album will be bigger, heavier, darker and more epic. Ivan is playing better and Walter sings with more confidence. We are also auditioning some of the best musicians in the local scene to reform a giggin band. In 2022 we will release the second album and we will make many dates to support it. We hope the damn covid is defeated by then. The plan is to give fun shows of epic and narrative heavy metal, with big vocals, shredding solos and lots of power and volume. It is going to be very fun!

Remember that you can hear the first album “Riders of the Sun” on Spotify and all streaming platforms, and you can contact us via Instagram (Percival Epic Metal) and by mail (percivalepicmetal@gmail.com).

Rock on!
