An interview with Next Stop Olympus

What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?

We got the band name from Disneys Hercules, Conor was watching the film one Saturday whilst we were trying to come up with a name and while he was having a couple of drinks it sounded like a good idea, dropped all the guys a message and we all agreed.

Between the 5 of us we all have a lot of influences but when it comes to writing we always trying to make sure it’s got that rock ’n’ roll vibe in with the heavy side of things too.

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

We just write however we’re feeling and what we’re dealing with at the time really, normally someone will come to the guys with either the skeleton of a song, a few riffs or just a general idea and we all build on it from there. The only time we’ve written in a way to actually try explore something was half way through writing the new EP we just released, we realised that we could turn the EP into a story from the lyrical content.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

We’re big fans of the style of music we play and in my opinion, people that listen to these kind of genres are always the most passionate band members and fans.

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

With the release of the new EP we’ll mainly just be playing that and a couple off the first EP which always go down well live, plus we do a cover which always gets a good response so that’ll probably stay in too, it just depends what kind of line up we’re on, if we’re on a heavier show then we’ll play the heavier tracks but if we’re on a softer show then we’ll play the less heavy songs.

What plans do you have for the future?

Our brand new EP ‘Heart, Mind & Hell’ was just released on 9th April so we’ll be trying to get that out there as much as possible now and play as many shows as we can now covid restrictions are lifting.
