What inspired the formation of the band?

My greatest idols are bands such as Kiss and Alice Cooper so I’ve always wanted to be a part of a masked band. The theatrical elements and the endless possibilities to make fun live-shows are what drives me. The masks comes from one of the best movies of all time ”Eyes Wide Shut” were the main character infiltrates an unnamed secret society. Combine those things, add some Jefferson Air- plane and Abba and you have Nephila. //Jacob

How do you approach songwriting and has this album differed from the normal patterns?

Most often nowadays an album are recorded all instruments separately, but we recorded the album live together in the studio. We wanted to have that ”in the moment feeling” on the album just as if we were to play a live concert. With our strong 70’s influences this choices seemed like the right way to do it. Also, I lose a lot of the feeling when I record separately from the band. I think it’s because of the endless possibilities to record 100’s of takes and polish till it sounds flawless.

But without the flaws I think you lose a lot of what makes music feel alive. // Jacob
 • What are your songs on the new record about?

The lyrics from album were inspired by worldwide issues, for example “Guidance to agony” tells a story about violence against women, especially in near relationships. The song “White bones” is about the refugee crisis, where for example parents send their children across the ocean to risk their lives, so they might get a better life without war and hunger. We also have a song about the environmental crisis, “Belladonna ”, from the earth’s per- spective.

Why did you decide to write the music that you did?

I think we have a need to play and write music. It’s self healing In a way. It’s one of the best things I know to make something out of nothing. Endless possibilities to make and create a story of whatever you want. //Jacob

How are you planning on promoting the record?

Things are finally looking bright here in Sweden, so soon we’ll hopefully be able to play live once again. That is the right way to experience Nephila. We want to bring you a show when we play. So we’re planning to come out and play gigs, also we’re also releasing a video for the song Clavata and next week we’ll record a live-session. //Jacob
