What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

It’s just my name! We’ve gone through a few different band names for them, but I’ve not settled on anything properly as of yet haha. The kinds of artists who inspire me are of a huge range, from old school storytellers like Bob Dylan and Neil Young, through to 90’s alternative bands such as Pixies and Nirvana – then even modern day songwriters like Phoebe Bridgers, and Courtney Barnett. I even listen to a bunch of other genres that have a hand in it, such as artists like Kendrick Lamar, Mac Miller and Charli XCX.

How do you approach songwriting?

Most of my songs begin with a chord progression, I’ll just be jamming and come up with something I like, then expand on that with lyrics and start forming a structure for the song. I often just let it grow on it’s course naturally – a lot of my songwriting focuses on my own experiences so I kinda just let it all flow out!

Why do you write what you do?

It’s a real great escape for me, putting my thoughts and emotions into a lyrical form, and it helps me understand situations and the such. Plus, I also enjoy doing it as I have a lot to say about many things – it’s a great way to get your story out there and give opinions on topics haha. The style I’ve got now is a real product of just trying to find my own unique distinction form the rest – it’s taken me a long time to get to this point but I’m happy with it now!

How do you decide what to perform live?

Often, I’ll assess the audience and atmosphere and figure out which of my songs suit the feel at the time – I’ve got a wide range of music to choose from, ranging from more chilled out, mellower tunes to heavier, shouty punky songs. I do like to have a balance between it all, so I may start off calmer and put in some heavier ones towards the end, as it’s a nice indication of the variety that I have under my belt. When performing live, I often jam them out a bit – I think it’s important to just have fun with it all!
