An interview with Harmonize

An interview with Harmonize

Could you tell us how the band was formed, and what inspired you to start playing?

The band was initially formed by our rhythm guitarist, George in 2012 with a different line-up.

Our current line-up was completed three years ago. George was seeking committed individuals who shared his vision and would put their heart and soul into this project. Our inspiration stems from many genres of meta, such as heavy metal, death metal and power metal, as well as fantasy fiction.

How do you approach songwriting, and did that approach change for Warrior in The Night?

Nowadays, we work very methodically and creatively for the development of our second album, where we firstly agree upon a broader theme, such as an umbrella concept, to capture the atmosphere of the whole album. After each one of us works on different riffs and melodies we compose the music and add the drums. Having compiled our drafts, we then work on individual themes for each track, acting as guidelines for lyric writing.

However, with Warrior in the Night, writing was slightly different because certain songs were written earlier than others and thus needed to be re-written. Besides that, it was a similar process.

Are there any themes that you specifically focused on during Warrior In The Night, if so why?

Absolutely! Firstly, we would like to clarify that we are a conceptual band. Our themes are based on an original epic fantasy story in the making. Warrior in the Night acted as an introduction to the story, focusing around the character of the Warrior, who was fighting for a now lost Kingdom in a retaliation battle, until he was met with an ultimatum, an offer or a dilemma, almost similar to that of Dr Faustus.

What song best defines the band?

I would say that Crawling Among Shadows is probably the track which best defines our musical aesthetic for the time being, as it has dark power metal elements.

What plans do you have for the future?

We are currently working on our next full-length album, so for the nearest future we will probably be releasing a single, until we release our second album. We are also hoping to start touring soon and to publish out story in text at a later date. Presently, we are taking part in the Ride To Rock Festival by RTR Records Brazil in an online event.
