What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?

We just threw random suggestions in until we had something that worked. We knew we didn’t want something too goofy but other than that not much else. I remember we also had ”A Year and A Day” and “Empty Faces” as some of the other choices. “Eternal Closure” sounded the best to us and we thought that it could mean different interesting things to different people. But I guess in the end it was pretty much because we just thought it sounded pretty cool haha.

We’re pretty much influenced by anything that sits in the Metalcore/Progressive Metal sound. We started pretty much as a Killswitch Engage/As I Lay Dying rip-off but we’re definitely using our influences more and more to create a sound that is ours.

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

I (Olivier) like to jam with my guitar for hours and see if something sticks out as catchy or interesting. If I find something really strong, I then try and imagine what kind of song I could build around it. As far as themes go, I write about things I care about and nothing really is of the table. I just go with whatever the track tells me. I tend to write lyrics and vocal lines simultaneously which helps me, focusing on what the vocals call for first and then write the lyrics accordingly.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

It’s a blend of what we all listen to (mostly). I don’t see why we wouldn’t write songs that we’d love to listen to ourselves. If I had a solo project, it would probably be a little softer overall, but Eternal Closure pretty much allows me to write whatever comes naturally.

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

We usually go with the songs that we perform the best and not necessarily the ones we love most. The shorter, simpler and heavier tracks tend to go really well live. We’ll try every song at least once and we’ll get the feel of how it resonates with people. We’ll also focus on what material we can play well without looking at our fretboards all the time haha. Songs like “Claustrophobia” or “White Flag” aren’t singles but they’re a lot of fun to play live so we keep playing them!

What plans do you have for the future?

We’re writing a bunch of new material at the moment. Hopefully we can record and release that sooner than later. It’s slightly different than “Screaming In Silence” and “Color of Our Fears: Rediscovered”, but I feel like it brings the sound of the band to another level. Can’t wait to show people!
