An interview with Diseased Earth

What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?

our bassist Joe is actually the one who suggested the name. It basically comes down to our view on humanity and how we are a plague to this planet, destroying it through blind, willful ignorance and hubris.

Our influences are really all across the board. We all like a lot of different things that we cram together and blend it into our sound.

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

When it comes to the music, our guitarist Paul and Bassist Joe usually come to the band with several riff ideas. We will jam on each riff and see if any have similar feels and can be placed together. sometimes the riffs fit, and sometimes they don’t.  if they don’t, we usually will just jam on the ones we like for a while till something comes out. Our drummer Clayton and Vocalist Travis will also make suggestions as to which riffs could go together or ideas for structure. its a really hands on approach when comes to writing the songs.

as far as themes, that is all up to Travis. Our lyrics span topics such as current political/social issues, Ideas based on the Mythos of HP Lovecraft, or just the human condition in general.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

it’s what we love to play. Life is stressful and crazy sometimes and playing heavy, aggressive music helps get that out.  Paul said it best when he said playing music keeps the sad away.

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

It’s a band decision here. We usually will play songs for a while and as new ones are written, we will take old ones out and replace them with the new ones. Usually it’s whichever one is the oldest one in the set, that’s usually first on the chopping block.

What plans do you have for the future?

We just released a brand new single “Coven of Leeches” and just nailed down a date to record several more with the same producer Buddy Harlow. We have several other things in the works that we can’t reveal at the moment, but keep an eye on all of our social media for more info coming soon.
