What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

It’s my name! Apparently my name was considered to be Jesse, but for some reason
my parents chose Cody instead. I have a wide range of influences from classic stuff
like The Doors, Kiss, and Nirvana to more contemporary stuff like Jordan Mackampa,
Gary Clark Jr, and John Mayer.

How do you approach songwriting?

I usually start off with a guitar riff or chord progression and build from there. Vocal melody and lyrics
are typically the last ingredient of the equation. I find a lot of inspiration in learning other people’s
music. It’s a good way to get new perspectives for your own work.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

It’s a reflection of my soul. It’s just who I am. Many times songs just come out, as if I’m the vessel. I
find that if I have to try really hard to finish a song it might not be worth using.

How do you decide what to perform live?

At this point I’m playing practically all of my songs in my live show out of necessity, haha! I’ve been
writing a lot more this year but I don’t have a large catalogue of songs yet. I have a core set of about 5
songs that are played at almost every show, and then I’ll have another 5-6 that I can interchange
depending on how long I’ll be playing.

What plans do you have for the future?

In short: write, record, tour. I’m fresh off of tour over the summer, and now I’m settling into shows for
this fall and planning for 2023. I’m releasing a new single on September 30th with The Animal Farm.
The song is called ‘Everything In Me’ and will be streaming everywhere. We’re going to be releasing
multiple singles over the next few months.
