What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

For our latest album “Kevin’s Town”, we all got really into LA Woman by The Doors. We all have quite different musical influences and tastes, we also took a lot of inspo from The Beatles, but who hasn’t? I’m really into King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Arctic Monkeys and love all their stuff.

The name came about as we all love Mangoes. It’s a catchy name I think.

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

Usually one of us brings an idea to practise and we work on it and curate it into a proper tune together. This way we bring out the best in each other and get the best bang for ya buck. It can be a bit long winded as we often chop and change songs about quite drastically but I’m honestly super proud of all the tunes we’ve written, and I think you can tell we care about and have thought about every aspect of the tunes.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

We were going through a bit of a writers block a while back and couldn’t really come up with anything great. We had this idea of a concept album when we were much younger and thought one day it would be super cool to write an entire concept album based on the story of a young lad who goes on adventures. Once we decided to go with this theme and to just let loose and have fun with what we were creating, the tunes flowed so much easier. We were also really into our 70’s rock at the time so this definitely influenced the music that you’ll hear.

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

We were a little bit worried that they wouldn’t sound the same live, and I suppose they don’t. But we brought in a few new members to help us playing them live which has helped, and to be honest its really cool for them to sound a bit different. They sound higher energy and we’ve changed certain aspects to get the crowd invested and create a really good live show so it’s nice to have them slightly separated in that sense.

What plans do you have for the future?

Gig wise we’re playing again at The Hope and Ruin in Brighton on 20th December. We’re then gonna be playing in Bristol and London early 2022. We’re also writing new music at the moment so we’ll hopefully have something to show for our efforts in around mid-2022. But for now we’ve just released a new music video for Bloom Orlando on our YouTube and the album is out everywhere to be heard!!
