What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences and are they the same as when you started out?

An anchor is not just a chunk of metal you throw off the end of a boat to keep it still.  Anchor is also an action.  To anchor a race is to be the last guy that goes because the rest of the team trusts you.  To Anchor The Storm is to hold it steady and do amazing things while life throws its worst at you.  Our influences range from 80’s pop to 90’s alternative to all eras of jazz and metal.  It all works its way into our songs.

How do you approach songwriting?

We tend to record ideas individually and then get together to jam a bit.  From there we see what works as a group and make the changes that are needed to have a great recording and live show.  We tend to add vocals later in the creative process.  We always want to explore melody and rhythm when we write together.  That’s what makes our music ours.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

Loud drums and guitar distortion with beautiful melody and chord structure creates a contrast that makes music interesting.  We’d get bored real quick if we didn’t have the ability to put together things that maybe shouldn’t fit together on paper but still work in reality.

How do you decide what songs to perform live?

Since Anchor is a relatively new band, we get to play all of our released singles live.  In a few months this will change as we consistently put out new music.  When we get to the point that we have to select songs, we’ll let our friends and following help us determine what they want to hear live the most.

What plans do you have for the future?

We’re going to keep putting out singles, videos, content, and play shows for as long as we are working together as a band.  It’s what we love to do.
