What inspired the name of the band? What are your influences?

The name acutally came as a direct result from my musical influences.. I love old soul music and Motown, and I wanted the name to sort of remind people of that era. I also wanted it to have a positive vibe immediately, and what’s more positive than Love? I settled on Davis & The Love, because even if I couldn’t find anyone else to back me up, or if we weren’t able to put a consistent line up together of band members , I wanted to remember why I started singing and performing in the first place, and that was for the love of music. Luckily, we put a great group of guys together who really capture the essence of all of that, and Davis & The Love became a reality.

How do you approach songwriting? Are there any themes that you are keen to explore when you start off?

I don’t know if I ever have specific themes other than just trying to relate to life. The good parts. The bad parts. Everything in between. Obviously, love and relationships are a big part of that, but also struggle and accomplishment, sadness and celebration. I really try to use whatever emotion the music brings out of me create the story that my soul wants to tell.

Why do you write the sort of music that you do?

I really spent my entire musical life in various projects that were all kind of different. I started out in a high school band that did more classic rock. Then I put out a few hip hop albums in college. I formed a rock/rap group after that. Joined and EDM heavy pop group after that, and was really just trying to find my own unique voice. Once I sort of stepped back and asked myself, “what’s the music that you really want to make” I sort of used all of my influences to blend into a sound that felt like mine. I had never really quite been able to draw upon all of the soul music that I really enjoyed growing up, so I wanted that to have a prevalent vibe throughout. And, I’ve always enjoyed telling stories within songs, and I guess with the way of the world right now and all of the division, I thought that the only revolution that made any sense is one of love. So, that’s just sort of what poured out of me.

How do you decide what songs to perform live and how do you transpose them into that live setting?

Well, we like to do a show that shows our influences as well as our original music, so we’ll take people on a ride from Motown to 80’s pop, to 90’s hip hop and even some stuff from today that weaves in with our original material. It sort of provides this really cool soundscape and sort of a love story to music and what’s inspired us. Obviously, the themes of the songs, the key and the tempo sort of dictate what follows what, but we like to take you on a musical rollercoaster.

What plans do you have for the future?

We’ve got a bunch of new music that we’re working on. A live album that we are mixing right now. And, we love touring and performing, so we’re going to do as much of that as possible. Really looking forward to 2022 and beyond!
